Most fur available on the UK market comes from rabbits. One of the reasons that it is being accepted by some is that fur promoters often claim that rabbit fur is a by-product of the meat industry. However, the evidence points strongly to the contrary. The bottom line is that fur is worth more than meat. In most cases meat is a by-product of the fur trade.

Meat rabbits are killed at 10-12 weeks, whereas rabbits bred for fur are killed several months later after they have shed their first coat. The quality of fur from meat rabbits is therefore deemed inadequate for most fur products.

If you see scarves, boots or toys which you think are trimmed, or made from fur, it is likely to be from rabbits. Please report them to us and urge the shop to stop selling them.

The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) have infiltrated and exposed this hideous trade. A trade where millions of rabbits are confined to bare wire cages, kept as breeding machines, their throats slit and their furs turned into boots, hats, gloves and trim for jackets.

Travelling across four European countries, infiltrating rabbit farms, slaughterhouses, dressing companies, manufacturers and retailers - CAFT can now expose the reality of the rabbit fur trade.

You can watch CAFT's new 11-minute video below and go to their website which exposes the rabbit fur industries' lies and cruelty: www.rabbitfur.org where you will also find a factsheet, report and high resolution images to download.
